Some of you might have heard that Keira Knightley has been in a new advert that has been banned. Keira suffers a brutal assault in the advertisement, which is highlighting the issue of domestic violence, and it has been made for the charity Women’s Aid.
You can see the advert below:
The advert has been banned for being too violent, and the banning of it is something I strongly disagree with. Yes, it’s not a nice thing to see at all. But it happens in real life. People are abused like this every day. As someone who suffered emotional abuse (it did escalate into physical abuse, but thankfully not as serious as in the advert) for many months before something was actually done, I think this advert is brilliant. It’s hard-hitting, shocking, and exactly what people need to see.
There is no point in sheltering people from things like this, and I really believe that an advert like this could help bring about more awareness of what some people suffer on a daily basis. It’s not something that you can just walk away from. It’s very easy for people to say that you bring it on yourself by staying, but they have no idea of how hard it is to walk away. Sometimes there are children involved, sometimes you don’t want to give up your home and your life, because you are the victim and don’t deserve to lose that, and so on. It’s a very, very difficult thing to go through and I think this advert is amazing because it’s showing people how it really is, and hopefully helping people in this situation to find someone to help them.
I could say so much more on this subject, but I don’t want to end up writing a novel about it, so I’m simply just going to encourage people to spread the word about this advert, and about the Women’s Aid charity.
Thoughts? Feelings? How did you feel when you saw the advert?

My first novel: self-edited and self-published. A romantic tale that doesn't profess to be mind-blowing - just a good, fun and easy read.

Jigglypuff clay charm.
Poliwag clay charm.
The video didnt load for me:S
Hey there Tasha
Thanks for the comment, glad you liked our article.
I think it shouldn’t be banned at all, people should be aware of this issue because it’s highly important. As the add said: “2 women die every week!!”.
Peace.
Not a fan of apple products?!?!
Heyy Tasha

Thanks for the comment
yeah i don’;t like miley either but i do love the song lol.
i dont think the video should be banned. i think people to be more aware of what is going on.
your right, it shouldnt have been cut. its a great film showing the effectiveness abuse can have.
It is an interesting advert, not the usual type of mildness we see. But I agree with you. It shouldn’t have been banned to make the people aware of life’s realities. There’s no point in sugarcoating.
I don’t think it should been banned, I mean, It’s not THAT violent, not at all.
yeah, and ICICLE, great idea, muhahaha. But I told the guy I like- kindda- that I do, so for now, no worries.
I agree, it shouldn’t have been banned. This is reality. There are women who have to suffer.
It’s like they’re trying to protect TV from the dangers of real life, because TV is just a magic happy place where nothing bad like that happens, when in reality, it does happen every day and needs to be stopped. I agree with everything you said and I could easily go into a long rant about it. I feel bad for women, and even men, who are on the receiving end of this because it must be so hard for them to leave. I think they are naive for thinking the person wont do it again, but if I was in that situation I’d be able to see it more clearly from their point of view.
Your smilies are cute by the way
I like how they’ll ban things that are trying to highlight a problem but still show other things equally as shocking for entertainment not informing purposes during the day
Yeah hopefully it won’t be too bad *fingers crossed*
I know, I was sooo pissed about that that when I got home, I ordered the dvd online and thought right i’ll buy it from play instead, HMV aren’t getting my money after that!!!
I think that’s a really intense, hard-hitting advert; I like it a lot, because I think it really gets the message across. And the metaphor of it being on a set is effective too. I definitely agree that it shouldn’t be banned. It is important to spread the message of what goes on every day, and without this violence, it just wouldn’t be realistic! Also, what happened to freedom of speech? >.> (Although I suppose if it’s not in America, that might not apply? I don’t know crap about the UK :P)
I completely agree with you about the video. They let adverts showing stuffed dogs (with drugs) and adverts about STDs and stuff like that show, so why shouldn’t they raise awareness about this? I thought the advert was great and it really made me think about it. I think they should unban this and raise awareness.
The author’s Sarah Dessen!
Her books are great(:
Btw,I love yer smilies!:D
I disagree that they have not broadcast the announcement. From my point of view, it’s important that emit these ads because this is what happens in real life, and it’s a way of sensitizing the society. The issue of domestic violence is very serious and can not understand why cancel the issuance of the notice. How to achieve this? Perhaps in real life this is not violent.
I think this announcement is very interesting. When I saw the ad I felt sorry for the abused woman.
take care!
I can see where you’re going with that. But I have to admit, it’s pretty hard to watch.
I probably would have a hard time if it came on a lot, you know?
yeah you’re right about that.. Those happens in real life so they just have to cut it out..
It’s too violent? Somebody’s making a joke, right?
I think domestic violence is something that should be despised all the way down. No more hiding, no more fear, no more running. We really need to do something about it and such ads aren’t going to help much. It needs more attention, and especially a lot of talk. Beaten women should be able to contact a psychologist or someone close with a common sense. It will continue to happen as long as we’re weak inside. I noticed people are like fish – with time they’re less resistant to bad. Uh. That’s a conclusion!
i agree with you. people should be more aware of what’s happening around us.
Amazing post. TV can be extremely biased. Violence on shows are okay, but not in real life? Yeah, okay!
Woah.. that commercial was really shocking. Of course I know it happens, but it’s still quite scary. I agree, it shouldn’t be banned though, people need to know what’s going on.

I know I’m pretty much a month late, but your (almost) new layout is nice~
Wow, that ad really gets the message across. I don’t think it should’ve been banned, but if someone younger watched that and was only able to understand the actions… so I guess it’s something that should be aired at later times, or something.
I completely agree. People should be aware that this is the reality and these things happen.
