Earth Day

Did you know that today (April 22nd) was Earth Day? I’m not a big environmentalist or anything, but I’m happy that this day exists. It’s great to have something that creates awareness for our planet and the environment. It really does disgust me the amount of litter that I see, the amount of cars some people have for no reason, the people who don’t recycle… I don’t know. The way I see it is this: we only have one planet and we should look after it. It’s our home! The movie WALL-E is a great example of what might happen to our planet if we continue like this, and it makes me sad.

Anyway, it’s late and I’m quite tired, but that was just a few thoughts I had. Seriously, think about it. You may think that some of these things don’t matter, that dropping a chewing gum wrapper won’t do much, but imagine, 1 or 2 billion people all thinking the same thing… It starts to add up. Is it really that difficult to stick it in your pocket or your bag until you find a bin or get home? Think of animals that could get trapped in some sort of litter or choke on it. Pretty upsetting thought, if you ask me. And is it really that hard to put paper into a recycling bin or compost what can be decomposed? If more people took more care in life and didn’t think someone else will do it, so you don’t have to, then, well, imagine how much we could clean up this world.

The other thing that annoys me is people who think oh, it won’t matter. I’ll be dead and gone before it’s a problem. How would you feel if it was YOU cleaning up the mess left by other generations? Surely you’d wonder how your ancestors could have left the world in a mess and not considered what it would be like for you? I know I would.

This wasn’t really a rant directed at anybody. I’m sure plenty of you out there DO appreciate our planet.

So, any thoughts? Do you recycle? Do you use public transport where it’s possible? Have you participated in any activities for Earth Day?

it’s really a good thing that we do celebrate a day for our mother earth. i do get your point and you’re absolutely right. we all don’t want to have an earth like that in the movie wall-e, right?

yes, i do recycle :) my whole family does. i do use the public transportation, too!:) i just wasn’t able to participate into any of the specific earth day activities :(

    Yayy Earth Day!
I’m glad we have days like these (: But then again, why can’t all our days be like that?
Why should we choose only one day to “appreciate Earth” right?
Earth Day should be year round. EARTH YEAR (:
I think the reason why people litter and drive their own cars so much is because it’s convenient. We’re humans: naturally selfish. Lol. We’ll probably think about ourselves before we think about the environment.
I recycle however, and I try to take the public transit as much as I can.
    I hope I’m doing my part : O

You know what? The funny thing is I still talk to this stalker and actually enjoy talking to him. I’m so weird, damnit lol. Who in the world actually enjoys talking to their stalker?

And oh mufasa! Yes I remember it now, haha. Thanks 8D

Ahhh I bet you’re not being judgemental :). You would think by the time you got to your last year in High School people would have some level of maturity, but no. To quote from one student “I’m only here to have a laugh”. Point in that when some of us are here to get grades for University arghhh.

To each is own I suppose :P. Do you like Harry Potter then :)?

I do like Chemistry and I probably will enjoy it :). In my first year of Uni I have to take 3 subjects so I might still be able to do Psychology :).

I think Earth Day is a good idea. You are right, if everyone just started doing small things, things would improve. And yeah, maybe we won’t be around when the problem gets worse but relations of ours will be :). Even a small thing like taking the bus or walking rather than going in the car is helping out :)

Each town is doing this promo. Just the housing areas. Unfortunately, the high rises won’t take part of it. I don’t know why. I think everyone should. Help promote Earth Day every day. You’ll get a green and blue bin. The green bin is for green waste. The blue bin is for recycle. I take my newspaper and cans to my friend’s house. We switch some from regular bulbs to fluorescent bulbs. That really help our electricity bill a whole lot. In a way, I feel like I’m doing something right.

I know how you feel. I don’t like when people just leave their trash lying around. It doesn’t look good. Sometimes I just want to tell them it belongs in the trash and not over there. I would pick up and throw it in the trash myself.

Everyone needs to do their share. If they didn’t every where would look horrible. No one would want to come to a filthy place. I know I wouldn’t.

Thanks for the comments. You except someone for who they are. It’s not what’s on the outside. It’s what’s on the inside that counts. You walk with your head held high. I’m slowly working on that confidence. It’s taking me a little whole to get it.

I’m not a big eco-junkie but I do help in my own little ways. Cause aren’t we supposed to start with ourselves?

I’m more or less alike you when it comes to treating our planet. But what can we do? We keep complaining yet we do nothing. It’s been like this for years, decades and even centuries. And how are we doing? It’s worse each year. Uh, I’m pretty sure we’ll end up in a bad way sometime in the future. That’s only the matter of time. People don’t care, because they don’t think of such things, they’re concerned about “more serious and important” things. That sucks.

  12. Diandra says:

i  recycling! I’m not a big environmentalist either but I like Earth days, coz I do care about this world that we live in :)
P.S., thanks for visiting my blog! i appreciate it!

  13. Bridgette says:

Yeah, he’s so stupid. haha, but they were obviously gonna squirt some kid anyway, I mean why else would they get out of their car with a bottle of mustard? And ik, thats what I told my mom. But I think its my stupid school that wants to press charges or something..

I don’t really ‘believe’ in global warming. Our planet’s temperatures will rise and fall over time, just look at the ice age alksdjf idk. But, I guess I can’t really say much, since I don’t know anything about the subject. But I recycle! And turn off lights when I can, and all that jazz. :D This is getting long, so I’m gonna stop rambling x]

  14. Jenn says:

Hey! Yay Earth day! And I’m glad to be your affie! :)

  15. Meaghan! says:

Nice me too. My sister is SO into saving energy. Like if I left my light on in my room to get something downstairs (I’d be going back up to my room after I got something), she would yell at me to turn off the light xD

Wall-E was such a cute movie! When I was little, I used to watch these japanese anime movies & they would talk about Earth not existing anymore because we would use up all the resources.

I recycle, I try to use public transportation whenever I have money for it :0 Or I walk! :D
For Earth Day, I turned off all the lights for at least 10 minutes [: Even the computer (:

  16. Sue says:

    Thanks (:

Hah~ I wish I could do that. I’d feel horrible later on if I did, though. D:

& :o you like dark chocolate? I heard it was better for your health than regular chocolate was, but I don’t like the taste x_x

I’m really glad we do have an Earth Day, although not many people recognize it. ;\ I mean, I know that at least 70% of the kids at my school don’t even care about it. It just kind of makes me “eh”.

Yep! I do recycle. I can’t really use public transportation because well, there aren’t many where I am. &, I wish there were events for Earth Day here. I only know of one thing and that’s to wear green for the week to recognize the day, it’s nothing much but it brings up some attention.

  17. Chylla says:

    hehe thank you :D
    yay earth day!
I hate it when people don’t take a good care of our Earth .
ah, in my country, bunch of people keep on throwing things everywhere .
    eek it’s so annoying .

  18. Bea says:

it was an important exam. My teacher is quite unpleasant. I hope everything comes out okay. ;)

22/04 it was Earth Day. I agree with you that most of society is not aware to protect our Earth. And it’s our home where we live and we should care. But I understand that it costs much awareness to so many people. I was really angry when I see one person throwing things on the street, and not recycled, and many other things that infuriate me.

Regarding your questions, I’m in favor of recycling. Well I do have a few ideas, such as making commercials over Earth to raise awareness in society. I don’t like using the car and use public transport daily.

    Have a nice day!
