Wordpress and new layout

I’ve got a new layout! :P It’s slightly similar to one I had a while ago… But I much prefer this one. :)

I’ve spent a few days converting my site to Wordpress and updating all my pages and stuff. I’ve been meaning to do it for a while; Cutenews is okay, but I wanted something a bit more stable. I was surprised at how easy it was to convert my layout into a Wordpress theme!

I also spent quite a bit of time making sure my site was XHTML and CSS valid. I’ve never made my site valid before… I figured I would this time, though. I put quite a few sites through the validator and was surprised at how many sites don’t actually have valid coding! So I decided to write a little about that.

It’d be great to see more blogging sites making their sites valid. Why is it a benefit and why should you take the time to do so? There’s are two good articles on it here and here, and to sum it up simply: having valid (X)HTML and CSS means your site should render properly in all web browsers (there are sometimes a few little things that cause it to show differently unfortunately), it decreases the time your site takes to load, it shows professionalism (I know a lot of bloggers want to be web designers – it’ll look great if you can code to the web standards set by the W3C), it makes your site more accessable and Google prefers valid code. Besides all that, it feels really good when you look and you see that little green bar saying you’ve passed validation!

So, if you have a bit of time, why not check out your website in the HTML and CSS validators, and see if you can fix your errors? It’s definitely worth it! :D And it’s pretty easy to fix most errors. The validator explains them, and you can always Google them to get further help. And no, it doesn’t make you king or queen of the internet if you have valid HTML and CSS, but it’s always a good thing to do and something to be proud of. :)

Well, this is probably getting pretty long and I want to go comment some people, so I’m going to leave you guys with a few questions!

2. What’s your favourite social networking site (MySpace, Facebook, Twitter, etc.) and why?

My answers:
1. I don’t have one because I don’t understand what all the fuss is about! :laugh: I might get one so I can follow some famous people, though.
2. Facebook! It’s just simple and professional, and I like that.

    Lol yeah it does. But I understand Cantonese well. Just can’t speak it D: So it makes it easier to understand mandarin & speak it lol. I’m not fluent in french though. I know a little (:

    I like the layout! :D Was converting easy? Congrats on making your site xhtml & css valid (: I tried to make it xhtml but I got too lazy xD I will fix it over summer though. For sure. Hah.

    1. Twitter – do you have one? Why/why not? Yes, because I thought it would be fun to talk to people that visit my site. And everyone else started to get one so I got one :D
    2. What’s your favourite social networking site (MySpace, Facebook, Twitter, etc.) and why? Myspace because that’s where my real friends are lol.

    The new layout is lovely! I also try to do XHTML validation. I can do it perfectly for my clients but too lazy to do it for myself. I guess that’s what I get for being lazy. :)

    1. I do have Twitter. I use it for networking, speaking to my clients, and to my online friends.
    2. I like Tumblr best I think.

    Ahaha :D I love having valid coding. There really is something about that green bar that makes me feel like I finally did something right.

    1. Yep, I have one. I got it because I got bored one day and figured it couldn’t hurt to have another “profile” sort of thing.
    2. Twitter. It’s simple and there’s not much to it. Plus, I like simple :D my favorite probably would’ve been Facebook of it weren’t for the fact that they changed their layout AGAIN. Now it’s even slower :|

    My spring break ended. I have to go to school tomorrow too. Very sad. :(
    I feel like the layout needs something too, but I’ll just leave it as it is.
    I agree about the validator. I’ve never validated my site before, and I bet I have tons of errors XD.

    Yes, I do. Very Addictive, I guess! Everyone is just so kind on there, and I love to update my status even if no one reads it :)

    My xhtml is valid but i’m way too lazy to fix my css. (: I will when i have the time ^___^
    Switching over to wordpress took me a while but it was all worth it :P

    You’re absolutely right, valid coding is very important for all web-designers… Besides, it just makes your life easier :P

    Thanks, it’s nice to know that I don’t like look Zac Efron. I have had my hair cut now so I probably look like someone else. :(

    I love this layout, the cow in the corner just makes it. :) I have valid coding overall, it’s just XHTML hates youtube videos and I did a vlog on my previous blog so for the moment at least, it’s not validated fully.

    1. I have twitter because I found it last year when everyone was crazying over plurk but I go on it now because people go on it more than MSN or AIM it seems.
    2. FACEBOOK~ I like that it’s not a competition to see who has the new skin like on bebo and myspace?

    Hey, how are you? I’m fine – the weather is just wonderful here in germany and this makes me happy all the time ;P

    Thanks so much for your advice because of that boy, but I am still kinda confused… I dont know, maybe I just see whats happening in the future…

    I use Twitter and I do like it alot. I also really like Facebook, but also have this german thing called SchülerVZ and nearly everybody you know can be found there.

    I am thinking about making my site valid but I’m just really stressed right now with school and everything..

    I totally agree with you about validation! I was shocked when I first looked at mine, I had about 400 errors! It took me a while to get all the pages validated but I finally did! I’m so happy and proud of myself! :P
    Congrats on getting wordpress! You’ll have to tell me how you did it so easily, I had so many problems with mine lol.
